  Gemstones
In ancient times, people believed in natural gemstones for healing and protective properties. Today, people still believe in the healing powers of gemstones, but they are also used for their natural beauty as fashion accessories. Part of their charm is that gemstones also carry different meanings. Here are some popular ones:

Agate is known as a protection stone. Agate is supposed to attract strength and prevents stress by providing a deep calming energy.

Turquoise is supposed to be an excellent stone for spiritual attunement and healing of the spirit.

Citrine has a golden hue and is called the "lucky stone" which will bring good luck and prosperity.

Smoky quartz is nature’s stone of endurance. It helps promote positive energy.

Black Onyx provides protection against negative energies, fortifies self confidence and sharpens your senses.

The Gemstones used in our collections are mixed with other interesting beads and accents like crystals, pearls, shell and metal ornaments to create unique, fashionable accessories. All accessories are exclusively handmade.

Natural Jade
Jade or "Yu" in Chinese is a protective stone guarding against accidents and misfortune. It will also bring good fortune and good health to the wearer. Jade is especially popular with the Chinese. Most jade comes from China and Burma and are hand-carved by craftsmen in China. Colours can vary from shades of greens to lilac to brown hues.

Madame Butterfly’s jade pieces are carefully selected for their natural beauty and carving details. The pieces are then handmade into exquisite jewelry pieces with a combination of other gemstones and pearls.

Emerald Jade
This collection offers an affordable version of translucent jadeite jewelry which would otherwise be very expensive. The jade stone base is enhanced to a clear and dark green colour to simulate jadeite. These stones are then set with cubic zirconia on rhodium plating to provide a finished jewelry-like look.

Imperial Treasures
Quality jade pieces are mixed with freshwater pearls and gemstones to create exclusive designed pieces of jewelry, available only at Madame Butterfly.

  Glass Beads
Colourful, handmade glass beads are used to create this fun and vibrant collection.

Cloisonné
Cloisonné is an ancient technique used for decorating metal based objects which continues to be popular till today. Cloisonné beads are available in updated designs and provide interesting ethnic accents to accessory pieces.
Cinnabar
This collection is named after the mineral cinnabar which in the early years was used for its red pigment to colour Chinese carved lacquer ware. However this is no longer used and red dyes are used instead to colour the wood resin beads. Chinese tradition believes that red brings good luck and fortune, and moreover red is also a popular accent colour to wear. In this collection, cinnabar beads are mixed with gemstones, pearls or crystals.

Clothing
The Cheongsam or "Qipao" in Mandarin is the traditional dress for Chinese women, with its stand-up collar and body hugging silhouette, evoking elegance and sophistication to the wearer. With strong interest in all things Chinese in recent years because of China’s rising presence and power in the world, the cheongsam has gained popularity as a form of dressing. Depending on the type of fabric, finishing and length, cheongsams can look smart for day wear or dressed up for any formal occasion. The traditional oriental details of cheongsams are also used for tops in our collections which are popular as they are more wearable.
